Hi everyone, welcome to our latest guide on how to win at sports gambling. If you have found your way to Compare Bookies, chances are you enjoy having a punt on the horses, dogs, football or another sport.
Bookies design odds in a way where they cannot really lose, so it is important that you use every resource at your disposal to take them for their money. This guide has been written to highlight these resources and some tricks that are available to help you beat the bookies!
Compare Odds
First and foremost, it is of utmost importance that with each and every bet you place, you get the best value for money you possibly can. If you were going to buy a new television, it is highly unlikely that you would walk into the first shop you came across and hand over your hard earned money.
Most people would check out a price comparison website or at least shop around a little bit at their local shopping center. The same principle applies to sports betting. Why would you want to place a £100 bet with odds of 3.0 when you could go to another betting agent and get 4.0? If you just place one bet per week, you could potentially be missing out on a lot of cash by using the same bookie.
There are many Odds Comparison Sites out there and we have such a service here at Compare Bookies. Odds comparison software will check all of the top bookmakers in real time and list the best odds available on the market. Pretty much every sport and bet type is covered so you need not worry about your wager not being included.
Some people are a bit lazy when it comes to betting and don’t like having more than one bookmaker account. This is fine as long as you are happy being dictated to by just one betting site. If you don’t want to get your prized email address cluttered with junky emails from gambling establishments then it will take just a couple of minutes to set yourself up with an email address you can use solely for gambling correspondence.
Free Bets
What better way to beat the bookie than to get them to give you a free bet. This is a great way to hedge your betting as there are over a hundred reputable bookies on the market willing to subsidise you. Bookies bonuses tend to vary between 50% of your first bet to equally matching it, up to £200 in some cases!
If there is one thing to take on board when applying for a free bet, it’s that your initial, funded bet will normally have to be placed above set odds. For example a bookie may require you to place a bet above odds of 2.0 for you to be eligible for the free bet. If the selection is anything lower than 2.0 then the matched bet will not be credited to your account.
For a list of current bookie free bets, and their minimum odds requirements, check out the home page or the free bets section on this website.
Match Bets
With bet matching software you area able to gain free bets without risking a penny of your own money. The idea is basically to back a football team, and bet against them losing at the same odds so that you cannot lose. Once you have done this, the bookmaker will credit your account with say, a £50 free bet that you can use to make money,
As an example, imagine you opened a new account with Boyle sports and you wanted to bet on a football match between Manchester United and Wigan. If Man U were 1.7 to win against Wigan at Boyle sports, and you could get 1.7 at Betfair for them not to win, you could place both bets with absolutely no risk as both outcomes are covered.
Once the match had finished, you would have exactly the same amount of money left in your account, but you would have accrued a free bet in the process. With this free bet you could then go on to place a small accumulator and win yourself hundreds of pounds! You will need to have quite a lot of available funds to cover both bets with each bookie, but you can always wait until the returns have been paid from one bet before you move on.
I recently did this and with my first free bet won £92 on an accumulator backing France v Turkey, Brazil v Uraguay and Italy v Ireland.
Betting Tips
If you are new to sports betting. Or lacking in sporting knowledge then a great place to get ideas on the best bets is to check out tipping websites and forums. For a place to start you could check out our tips section, or have a look at the OLBG forums where there are many seasoned pros.
There are some lousy websites out there offering betting tips that really do stink though. If you are browsing, looking for betting tips, then make sure you follow the word of a site, or writer that is experienced in the game. You don’t want to be following the guidance of some 13 year old ‘tipping’ from his old man’s laptop.
Compare Bookies betting forum is soon to be open, so make sure you check back in the near in future and get involved. We have some very exciting contributors who will be offering tips and advice to all users of the site.
Use betting Software
There is various software on the market that can be used to help beat the bookie. Some software will analyze recent data and suggest bets that have a high opportunity of success. Other betting software is used for arbitrage – making money from small discrepancies on odds that provide a guaranteed win when you back and lay a certain bet.
Please watch out for our forthcoming guide on betting software that will give a much more in depth analysis of the types of programmes that can be found on the internet.
Bet on what you know!
There is little point in taking a stab in the dark with tennis if there are other markets you are familiar with. I would never bet on Futsal, as I know more about quantum cosmology than I do about it (I know less than nothing about quantum cosmology!). Football on the other hand is my passion and I consider myself to have quite a broad understanding of it.
As we mentioned before, there are many free ways you can help push things in your favour when betting on sports, and it is vital that you take advantage of them if you regularly bet. If you have any further ideas or secrets you would like to share than please do contact us. We wish you the best of luck in your quest to beat the bookie.
